The Albany and Entelechy Arts with Soundcamp today announce a new radio show hosted by Meet Me at the Albany members to inspire creative action and to help relieve isolation in older adults. Meet Me on the Radio is a new weekly radio show featuring sonic journeys through Lewisham, news and sounds from the Albany garden, creative activities, provocations, and conversations with members and artists. It is broadcast every Tuesday at 11.30am – 12 midday on South London community radio station Resonance FM and is produced in partnership with Soundcamp, an artist collective exploring audio experiences.

In normal circumstances, the Albany and Entelechy Arts’ award-winning programme for over 60s, Meet Me at… takes place at the Albany in Deptford, and in sheltered accommodation sites, community centres and in people’s homes around Lewisham. Usually, the weekly arts club includes a choir, gardening activity, films and live events and performance. With COVID-19 presenting serious risks for older people, the programme stopped meeting in person in March 2020.

With many members of the Meet Me at… community already at risk of social isolation and without access to digital devices, the show will provide a vital, accessible and regular source of connection and entertainment led by the creative voices of vulnerable adults in challenging times.

Meet Me on the Radio forms part of Still Kicking – a redesigned programme of activities, forging creativity and connection for older adults in response to COVID-19. These activities include creative activity boxes, full of inspiring projects, materials and activities. Delivered to participants’ doors and compiled by artists with everything needed included, the activities are also explored on the radio show. The renowned Meet Me Choir is also continuing with choir leaders and members conducting singing sessions over the phone. Participants also receive regular phone calls from volunteers and staff to check on their welfare and have a chat.

Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the Albany, Gavin Barlow said:

“We’re excited to launch this new venture for Meet Me at… in partnership with such fantastic organisations. The programme has already evolved to include so many activities, interests and skills so a radio show seemed like a natural fit! One of the best things about the programme is people of all backgrounds and ages coming together, so we hope that as many people as possible tune in and enjoy Meet Me on the Radio each week.”

Artistic Director of Entelechy Arts, David Slater said:

“Meet Me on the Radio puts the passions and experience of the oldest in our communities at the heart of the creative fight-back against COVID-19 enforced isolation. Prepare to sit back, listen and have all your preconceptions about ageing blown away. Our Meet Me adventure continues…”

Presenters: Ron Savill and Rosaline Muirhead.

Producers: Hannah Kemp-Welch and Grant Smith.

A co-production by the Albany and Entelechy Arts with Soundcamp.
