Little Boxes of Memories

Our Little Boxes of Memories project uncovered and shared the remembered life and heritage experiences of socially isolated 80 to 100 year old Londoners.

We partnered with Lewisham Hospital and the Museum of London to create this exceptional Heritage Lottery Funded project.

The programme was co-curated by older people together with young people who have profound and multiple disabilities from Greenvale School.  A skilled team of facilitators and volunteers worked with older Londoners in private, nursing residences and at Lewisham Hospital Stroke Unit, to share their remembered life histories from the 1920s-50s.

Working with the children of Greenvale School, they devised ‘little boxes’- rummage boxes, fragrance boxes, mini-cinema boxes, and whatever other boxes flowed from their imaginations to capture and retell fragments of these memories. This engaging and accessible form of one-on-one theatre toured SEN schools and nursing homes in south London in spring 2013.

The Little Boxes of Memories project developed the ideas of Entelechy Arts Brazilian sister company Casa Das Fases.

“A wonderful and unique contribution to the life of our school. It was brilliant.”
