Meet Me at the Museum of London Docklands

by

This is an artist report by Annie Hayter for Meet Me on the Move

WHAT WONDER – Pauline’s words

what beauty / the mother of pearl

what bird is this / cockedoodle, it could be a hawk

thank you, thank you / for a lovely day

In April Meet Me on the Move visited Museum of London, Docklands. We were lucky enough to have a wonderful tour of selected parts of the museum, including Warehouse 1, as an introduction to the history of the building, and Sailor town, which saw us exploring the streets of the Docklands as they would have been in the Victorian era (thankfully minus the smells!)  The team who supported us made us feel warmly welcomed, included, and taken care of.

The visit threw up a lot of interesting and deep conversations and reflections, about history (both recent and further in the past), culture, our local geography and so much more. Poet Annie Hayter was there to capture some of that richness and put it into text.

ON THE WINDRUSH GENERATION – Jeanie’s words

Took us to this country –

To do the dirty work.

Then tried to send us back.

Thank you to the Museum of London Docklands for having us.
